HOW DO I FIND BOOKS ON BIOLOGY ?

Biology books are mainly located in the Q call number areas on the main floor of the library.  All library books are searchable in the online catalog by keyword, subject area, and title.  Biology subject areas include:

QH - Biology General
QK - Botany
QL - Zoology
QM - Human Anatomy
QP - Physiology
QR - Microbiology

  • Academic Search Premier
    Academic Search Premier provides full text for nearly 4,700 publications, including full text for more than 3,600 peer-reviewed journals. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 titles.
  • Agricola
    Agricola contains about 3 million listings for materials in the National Agriculture Library since 1971, including books, book chapters, journal articles, and multi-media materials.  Subject areas include agriculture, geography, food science, natural resources, botany, and animal biology.
  • General Science Full-Text
    This HW Wilson database covers a broad range of fields in general interest periodicals and specialized journals as well including: Astronomy • Atmospheric Science • Biology • Botany • Chemistry • Conservation • Earth Science • Environment • Genetics • Health & Medicine • Mathematics • Microbiology • Oceanography • Physics • Physiology • Zoology
  • Bio One
    Indexes peer-reviewed bio-science journals and bulletins published by AIBS member societies.
  • BasicBIOSIS
    BasicBIOSIS indexes 500 journals in biology and medicine.  Areas of coverage include biochemistry, biotechnology, biology, botany, clinical medicine, ecology, genetics, microbiology, pharmacology, veterinary medicine, and zoology.  Coverage is 1988 to the present. Password required- in library use only- please see Reference Librarian for the password.
  • JSTOR
    JSTOR (Journal Storage) is a searchable full-text database of core scholarly journals in the humanities and social sciences and science. Many of these titles date back to the 1800s. Current issues of several JSTOR titles are available in the library’s print collection. 
  • Science Direct
    Indexes major publications in the life and health sciences.  Includes over 950 full-text journal titles and several reference titles.
  • PsycINFO
    PsycINFO (APA) contains citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books, dissertations, and technical reports in the field of psychology and the psychological aspects of related disciplines. Journal coverage, spanning 1897 - present, includes international material selected from more than 1,500 periodicals written in over 35 languages. Current chapter and book coverage includes worldwide English-language material published from 1987-present. Over 60,000 references are added annually through weekly updates.
  • PubMed
    Indexes biomedical journals from MEDLINE and additional life science journals. Also links to molecular biology databases of DNA/protein sequences and 3-D structure data.
  • PubMed Central
    The full-text depository for most open access journals in the medical field and bio-sciences
  • DOAJ - Directory of Open Access Journals
    Provides links to journals in History, Religion, Philosophy and the Sciences.  All journals are open access journals meaning their research articles are available for free; however, they are still under copyright by the author and journal publisher.
